Sam Van Aken,a professor at Syracuse University decided to create an unique tree. He grafted forty different stone fruit plants such as peaches,plums,cherries, nectarines...in order to grow a single tree. The result? A tree with forty different kind of fruits.

Amazing Bird!!

Have you ever seen those types of small fish which live stuck to sharks, whalesharks or even rays? Well, they are remoras, and they are good friends, since they eat parasites, but when there are a lot of them it is a problem. Why? Because they slow down the big fish and make them waste more energy. But have a look at this cormorant...this is incredible! Look how it helps this fish and gets food at the same time!!

After a long break, here I am again. This time I will show you an incredible creature: The Mimic Octopus. It lives in South East Asia and  it was dicovered in 1998. Why so recently? Because he did a great job by disguising itself. Have a look and see it by yourself by clicking on the image!

Saint Patrick!!

Celebrated the 17th , March, Saint Patrick's Day is an important celebration in many places.
But who was Saint Patrick? He was a Christian missionary who lived in the fifth century and basically  tried to convert the Irish to Christianity.

Each year millions of people celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. It is a national holiday in Ireland when people do not work but worship and gather with family. In the United States, the first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in New York on March 17, 1762.

A deadly lake

In the United Republic of Tanzania we can find Lake Natron, a lake that thanks to its microorganisms has pink, red and even orange water.

But why is this lake so special? It is highly alkaline, its PH is from 9 to 10.5 (water is between 7 and 9) and the temperature can reach 60 degrees!!It is so salty that it can kill most animals! Except one fish that has evolved to survive in this lake under these conditions.

The animals that die in the lake are turned into statues due to calcification.But how can they die if they know that the lake is extremely dangerous? No one knows...there is a hypothesis that says that the water is so reflective that birds can get confused and crash...

Women who changed history

Women have always played an important role in society and history but it has been always overshadowed by men. It is high time to be recognised and valued!! We are equal!! We have the same rights!!

Ice Park in China

In Harbin, China, there is a special festival every year in winter: The Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival.

It started in 1963.

It starts on January 5 and lasts one month, but if the weather is good, it opens earlier and stays open longer.

Happy Saint Valentine's Day!!

             Today is Saint Valentine's Day and to celebrate this date I am going to show you several Power Point Presentations that I have designed to use in class.

                In Biology, students have watched animals "Mating Rituals" (you have to click on the images to see the ritual) , in Technology "Love is in the Web" about the use of the internet in love issues, specially Tinder, and in History "The things I do for love" (Yes, I am a Game of Thrones fan) about amazing buildings made in the name of love.
                Apart from this, in Chemistry they have created love messages with invisible ink and in Music, they have participated in a romantic contest about famous love songs.
               Tomorrow, we will read a text about the history behind this celebration, its origin.

It is getting late and it is almost time to go to bed. But...what is that sound?? Can't you hear it?? Our little friend is already sleeping!! Shhh...Don't bother him!! He is so tired...He needs to rest!!

Watermelon snow

This phenomenon is common during the summer months in Sierra Nevada...but not in Spain...in California!! And in altitudes of 10.000 to 12.000 feet (3.400-3.600 metres).

When you walk, you leave a footprint that seems watermelon pulp and it has the smell of watermelon as well!!

But how can this happen?? And why?? It happens when a specific red-pigmented algae (Chlamydomonas nivalis) that contains clorophyll is combined with the snow that is starting to melt because the temperature is hotter. Due to this specific circumstance, snow becomes pink. Isn't it amazing??

I'm loving it!!

Did you know that the last Macdonald's hamburguer was sold in Iceland 8 years ago?? This may not be specially interesting, but...If I add that that hamburguer is still kept and shown in a hotel in Reykjavik and that you can see it through a web page...what do you think?? This is Halloween!!!!

I know Halloween took place long time ago but I want to share some power points that I designed. "Terrifying Creatures " was for Biology class, "Poor Witches" for Technology class and "The History of Halloween" for Histrory class. In Chemistry , the students made slime and in Music the students listen to the famous song "Ghostbusters".
I also directed a "videoclip" with drama students and some of the teachers, can you guess the song?
